The Home Book Box that your child received is an essential element of our school/home learning connection. The materials that are sent home have all been reviewed with your child in class. These materials contain important lessons, concepts, and skills which need to be practiced at home.
The phrase “Use the Clues!” is used in our classroom every day. It refers to the concept that your child is instructed to use “clues” to assist them in “decoding” words that help them to begin to read. “Clues” are things such as letter sounds, letter combinations,
sight words, etc. The more your student “Uses the Clues!” the more he/she will begin to become an independent and lifelong learner.
Each time your child brings home a book, word wheel, or other learning tool it must be reviewed with your child as soon as possible. Then have your student place it in the Home Book Box to keep as a resource all year long. Return to the Book Box each day to practice reading or math.
Encourage your student to use the Home Book Box often. It is important that he/she begins to use these resources on their own.
